And for the longest time while doing it, I was convinced I was not gonna be able to pull it off. So I was more than a bit scared trying to paint this. At the same time, Ellen Ripley became one of my favourite characters, due in part to the way she went against so many of the tropes in the genre, but also simply because she was such aВ fucking badass. It was a very literal punch in the gut, and the Xenomorph scared me beyond what was reasonable. Watching Alien was one of my first encounters with what science fiction could accomplish beyond the romanticized stories of the golden age writers I had read before.
